Return to main Adjustment of Status page
All applicants for adjustment of status (AOS) must provide the results of a medical exam on form I-693. Generally, if the medical exam results are submitted within one year of the examination, they remain valid throughout the time required to complete adjustment of status processing.
Medical examinations may only be conducted by designated civil surgeons. To find a designated civil surgeon, click here.
Many applicants fail to sign the I-693 form before it is sealed by the doctor. Since the envelope containing the medical exam results must be submitted unopened by the applicant, this results in a delay in the processing of the case while the CIS returns the I-693 to the applicant for signature. Also, some doctors do not complete all of the required entries on the form. For this reason, the USCIS recommends that applicants print off a copy of the instructions to form I-693 and carry them with them to the medical examination.
